Almost exactly 1 year ago, the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective challenged Jackson to start a local prison books organization to serve Mississippi’s incarcerated population.

We celebrated 1 year of accepting the challenge with our first book packing party!
We filled all of the outstanding book requests from Parchment Correctional Facility, some of which have been waiting a very long time for books!

Thank you to everyone who donated time, funds, and books to make our first book packing party a success.

Huge shoutout to our working hosts at TurnUp Studios. Ya’ll are the best.

Help Us Get Books Into Mississippi Prisons!

Hello Mississippi! Big House Books already has hundreds of letters from prisoners in Mississippi requesting books to read. The good news is, we have lots of donated books to send them! We just need some help from you to get them there. Our greatest needs are:

  • $75/month for a space in Jackson that can house books and host book packing parties.
  • $3-$5 per package for packing supplies and postage
  • Printer paper, black sharpies, and folding tables for work days
Our group is entirely volunteer run, and we cover our operating costs solely on donations.
