Summer Wrap-Up

We have had a busy summer full of book packing parties, conferences, and community events. From May to the end of September, we sent out over 5,650 books!

As we head into the holiday season, we will continue to post updates and opportunities to give. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to get the latest updates, and keep checking our website for recaps and announcements.

We are so grateful to Aydan for taking on Big House Books for his Eagle Scout project. Through his book drive, he collected over 1,000 books for incarcerated readers!

We always enjoy attending our biggest event of the year – the Mississippi Book Festival. There were over 8,000 attendees, and we met a ton of them! Thank you to the volunteers who staffed our table during the event, and thank you to our supporters for stopping by. We received $1,200 in donations to our postage fund! That’s 240 packages of books in the hands of incarcerated readers!

We ended the month of September at Wellsfest! The weather was beautiful and our volunteers were ecstatic to tell attendees about our mission and volunteer opportunities at Big House Books!

Big House Books was represented as a sponsor at the convening of the Mississippi Consortium for Higher Learning in Prisons. It was a wonderful two days of meeting other advocates from across the state and country who are working to provide educational opportunities for incarcerated people. We are excited to collaborate with this wonderful group in the future.

We still put the “party” in BOOK PACKING PARTY every Sunday from 12-2 PM. Come volunteer with us!
